Client Based Computing Macros
A "macro" is a copy of a client-written program that has additional pieces added by Administrative Information Services' Client Based Computing that converts the copy in to a production job. A macro can be scheduled to run as often as every day. Selection criteria (term, year etc.) are passed to the macro based upon values entered by the client on a special memo form. The memo form is filled out by the client and sent to Administrative Information Services' Operations Customer Center (353-4420 ext. 207) with desired run dates and selection criteria for the particular job run or for a range of runs occurring over days, weeks, months or years.
Converting a copy of your program into a Macro is an ideal choice if you want the program to run on a regular schedule, or if the program has a large amount of printed output such as reports or labels. Macros can create datasets (for storage or FTP) and/or printed reports, labels, special stock items, letters and much more. Macros can automatically email a job run completion notice listing files or reports/labels created, input parameters used, and the time and date the macro ran. If you want to enter input parameters for your macro online, Administrative Information Services offers "Key Master". Key Master is a software utility that has powerful edit and checking abilities. Key Master is ideal for offices who want to use data entry personnel for input data entry. Administrative Information Services also offers "Infopac". Infopac is a software utility that may be used to view a macro's output online where a printed report is not desired.
To request that a copy of your program(s) be converted to macro, fill out a yellow Administrative Information Services Request for Application Support (RAS) form (with proper signatures) and attach a completed Client Based Computing Macro Request Worksheet* filled out with information specific to your programs. Send the completed RAS form with the completed Client Based Computing Macro Request Worksheet to: Administrative Information Services, Data Administration, 2 Administration Building.
*This link takes you to pages that you can print out and submit with your completed RAS. Online submittal of RAS or Client Based Computing Macro Request Worksheets is not yet available.
